Cliff Berry, Inc. is hiring a Painter Helper / Sandblaster for our Fort Lauderdale location. This position supports industrial painting, abrasive blasting, surface preparation, and general shop and equipment-maintenance activities. The ideal candidate is safety-minded, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in an industrial environment.

Previous sandblasting or industrial painting experience is preferred; however, candidates with related construction, automotive painting, maintenance, or hands-on mechanical experience are encouraged to apply.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure Health and Safety is the number one goal by following company policies and procedures and always performing work in a safe manner.
  • Assist with preparing vehicles, tanks, trailers, equipment, machinery, and other surfaces for painting and coating.
  • Perform abrasive blasting/sandblasting to remove rust, paint, coatings, scale, and other contaminants from surfaces.
  • Clean, sand, scrape, mask, and otherwise prepare surfaces before painting or coating.
  • Assist experienced painters with applying primers, paints, coatings, and finishes as directed.
  • Set up, operate, inspect, and clean abrasive blasting equipment, including blast pots, hoses, nozzles, air-supply equipment, and related components.
  • Load, handle, recover, and dispose of abrasive blasting media and waste materials in accordance with company procedures and applicable safety and environmental requirements.
  • Safely handle paints, coatings, solvents, blasting media, and related materials.
  • Clean and maintain painting, blasting, and surface-preparation tools and equipment.
  • Wear and properly maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protection.
  • Successfully complete required Hot Work Permit training and comply with all company hot-work procedures.
  • Successfully complete required Confined Space Entry training and follow all company confined-space entry procedures.
  • Enter and perform work in confined spaces, including tanks, vessels, and other enclosed or restricted areas, as required for surface preparation, abrasive blasting, painting, coating, cleaning, and related duties.
  • Work at elevated heights as required, including from ladders, man baskets, aerial lifts/sky lifts, and on top of tanks, equipment, and structures while using required fall-protection equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly store tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Assist with general shop, yard, and equipment-maintenance activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of painting, coating, and surface-preparation techniques preferred.
  • Knowledge of abrasive blasting/sandblasting equipment and techniques preferred.
  • Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify surfaces requiring additional preparation or touch-up.
  • Ability to safely handle paints, coatings, solvents, blasting media, and related materials.
  • Familiarity with industrial shop and workplace safety practices preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude is a plus.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively under the direction of experienced painters and maintenance personnel.
  • Ability to work independently when appropriate and effectively as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and willingness to work additional hours when operational needs require.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous industrial painting, automotive painting, sandblasting, construction, maintenance, or related experience preferred.
  • Previous experience operating abrasive blasting/sandblasting equipment is preferred but not required; training may be provided.
  • Valid driver's license with a driving record that meets company standards.
  • Ability and willingness to complete required safety training, including respiratory protection, confined-space entry, hot-work, and fall-protection training, as applicable.
  • Ability and willingness to learn proper painting, coating, surface-preparation, sandblasting, and equipment-maintenance techniques.
  • Ability to follow established safety procedures and wear required PPE.
Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in an industrial shop and yard environment. The employee may work indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to varying temperatures, noise, dust, abrasive blasting media, paint overspray, fumes, solvents, airborne contaminants, moving equipment, and other conditions typically associated with industrial painting and maintenance operations.

The employee may also be required to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights, including on ladders, aerial lifts/sky lifts, man baskets, tanks, equipment, and structures. Required respiratory protection, fall protection, and other PPE must be worn as appropriate for the work being performed.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or operate tools and equipment, reach with hands and arms, communicate, and respond to verbal instructions.

The employee may also be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, work in confined spaces, and work at elevated heights.

The position requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and more than 20 pounds of force regularly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. The employee must also be able to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods while performing regular work duties.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also be able to meet applicable vision, hearing, and respiratory requirements associated with the position and required PPE.
